The repossession of the Philippines from Japan had begun with the invasion of Leyte on October 20, 1944. As post offices were recaptured, the surviving stocks of stamps were sent to Tacloban, where the postmaster applied his hand-carved "Victory" rubber stamp. Only seven booklets containing 28 panes were overprinted on December 3, 1944. (Image)
