Pasted on the reverse is a German newspaper clipping datelined Munich, May 8, telling of the Hindenburg disaster. Also, Sammt has again signed the cover below the clipping, "Albert Sammt, 1. Officer on board Hindenburg, 6. May 1937". How did this cover get from Cologne on May 3, back onto Hindenburg on May 6? Sammt (and Liebrecht), though badly burned, survived the fire, and Sammt's second, dated signature could have been added at a later date, but why would he have inscribed it and dated it as he did? A mystery, `.
