ca. 1450, Leaf from a "Book of Hours", illuminated both sides, written in gothic script on vellum (85 x 119 mm), with capitals, borders, and floral designs all exquisitely illuminated in red, blue and gold; Extremely Fine and in an exceptional state of preservation, ex Robson Lowe collection.
"The Book of Hours was a prayer book for the laity developed in late medieval Europe and used for private devotion" (Library of Congress). The vast majority of surviving books from medieval times are Books of Hours. (Image)
