Barbados, 1868 British Officer's Cover from England to Barbados, endorsed "From Lieut. Gibbons. 2/11th Regt./Per R.W.I. Mail 16th Sept." to W.B. Gibbons, Gibbes Barbados, franked with a 1865-73 6d. lilac tied by a Newport, Isle of Wight "1560" duplex, Sep 16; countersigned by Edmund Jeffrey, "Comding. 5th District Battalion" alongside an Oct 6 Barbados "8" (St. Thomas) c.d.s.; backstamped with a red Sep 17 London transit and an Oct 4 Barbados "1" (St. Michael) c.d.s.; small repaired flap tear, stamp wit slightly rounded lower left corner; otherwise Fine and rare. Believed to be the only recorded example of a properly endorsed officer's letter incoming to the British West Indies.
