International Aviation Tournament (AAMC 3a), picture postcard with 1¢ Franklin tied by Sep 24 Special cachet/cancel with "Aerial Special Despatch" handstamp; message reads "I am here this afternoon watching the flyers. More than a dozen are flying…. This will be mailed by Aerplane". Card is very scarce real photo card of [Aviation pioneer Walter] "Brookins Starting"; also includes a clipping from the New York Evening Post of Sep 16, 1931 with an illustrated article entitled "Air Mail to Mark Its 20th Birthday", Very Fine. 1929 (Mar. 18), Return Flight of the Pan American from Canal Zone, official business penalty cover cancelled Cristobal, Mar. 18, 1929, to postmaster, Washington, DC, with Brownsville, Tex, Mar. 20, backstamp, carried on the planned non-stop flight which was interrupted by weather and forced to land in Tampico, Mexico, before continuing on to Brownsville, signed by pilot Ira C. Eaker and postmaster general Walter F. Brown, a Fine to Very Fine cover, only 27 pieces were carried, six signed by Eaker. AAMC CZ 28; $250. (Image)
