image Caribbean, 1930 (Sept. 15-Oct. 22), Pre-FAM 6 survey & pre-flight covers, four in all, the earliest being a colorful Uruguay cover from the Sept. 15 Rio - Montevidéo - Rio - U.S. flight, with eight-stamp franking and boxed cachet in blue showing Uruguayan and U.S. Great Seals under which reads "Primer Vuelo/Uruguay-Estados Unidos/Via Panair/F.A.M. No 10", with violet boxed "via NYRBA/Correspondencia Aerea" (added later); additionally, two Haitian covers from Port-au-Prince dated Oct. 20, 1930, one to Cayenne, French Guiana, the other to Maranhao, Brazil, both sporting large double-ring "Premier Vol" blue cachets, the cover to Brazil noted in typescript ""Via first flight F.A.M. 10" and signed "Roberts" and by the Haitian Postmaster General; the final cover is dated Oct. 22, 1930, sent Suriname to Brazil (Muller #29), bearing incomplete "Luchtpost/Suriname/Par Avion" barred bridge handstamp in violet; appropriate backstamps each, Very Fine, a lovely group of pre-Pan Am covers, when the skies really were open.

Fariss.
