Cat No: BK84a
Booklet, 1932, 37¢, violet on buff cover, experimental cellophane interleaving (Scott BK84a), with panes of #720b var., o.g., never hinged, Very Fine. 30,000 of these booklets were issued in July of 1936. Few have survived. Scott $3,000.
Hugh Southgate wrote in the Feb. 1932 issue of The Bureau Specialist, "The Bureau has been experimenting with the use of cellophane in place of the paraffined interleaves in our current booklets…. The extra cost of material will probably prevent the use of this interleaf. When this was previously considered it was found that the cellophane did not lend itself to the mechanical work of assembling as satisfactorily as the standard material." . (Image)
