Cat No: 331a var. A

image 1908, 1¢ green, booklet pair, imperforate between (Scott 331a var.), position A, deep rich color, characteristically centered to top left, o.g., hinge remnant and small patch of gum glazing at top right from protective mount, Fine to Very Fine. An exceptionally rare variety, of which there are fewer than ten certified pairs, with 1945 P.F. certificate.
Scott $3,750.

It has been surmised that this unissued variety emanated from "booklet experiments" (
cf. Scott catalog footnote). Mr. Larkin's example has Philatelic Foundation certificate no. 19 and was the first such example of this variety certified by the P.F. In the Philatelic Foundation's Opinions V (1988), George Brett lists and illustrates seven certified imperforate-between pairs, with one further pair added in Roger Brody's updated article in Opinions VII (2006).
