The Dutch backed out of the project at its very beginning, with the Germans and English continuing to schedule a planned expedition. The project assembled a joint British-German crew for the airship, with scientists from both countries. The Airship Expedition was scheduled for the second half of 1914, exactly the time when World War I broke out.
