DIADEMS: The original letter headed "Etherington Cottages/Forbes Street, Wooloomooloo/Nov 3rd 56" and signed "James Dutton"
submitting for "Inspection and approval" the privately rouletted 1d block referred to in the previous two lots, the reverse with a lengthy notation signed "14 Nov 1856/WH Christie PMG" in which he states "...referred to the Inspector of Stamps...who
informed me that he had already sent to England for the necessary machinery for perforating stamps...Mr Dutton's proposal was objectionable as he...would perforate the stamps at his own Residence...[the stamps] to be returned", a piece of the fourth
page has been torn-off but well clear of Dutton's epistle & the PMG's note. A fascinating historical document.
