1264     306-E1 image1902, 8¢ Preliminary Pencil Drawing of Frame as Adopted on Tracing Paper. 95 x 200mm design size on slightly larger tracing paper, signed "R. Ostrander Smith 1-9-0-2", frame is essentially as adopted for the final stamp design, bottom left corner torn off well away from design, Very Fine, with 2004 P.F. certificate.
Scott No. 306-E1; $2,200.

THIS IS THE UNIQUE HAND-DRAWN FRAME ESSAY OF THE ADOPTED DESIGN BY R. OSTRANDER SMITH FOR THE EIGHT CENT 1902 ISSUE. A UNIQUE RARITY WHICH IS ILLUSTRATED IN JOHL.

The P.F. certificate erroneously describes this as "some portions of the drawing have been enhanced in dark lead pencil". This undoubtedly was done at the time by Ostrander himself.
