4121 imageSAS 22nd A squadron, Penang - 1954 (7 Jan) DAMAGED BY SEA-WATER boxed h/s in black on stampless Forces Airmail envelope sent by TPR Lees, A Squadron, 22nd Special Air Service Regt, Minden Brics, Penang, Malaya. With SAS printed flap 'Who Dares Wins' green and black monogram. Addressed to UK with I.S. triangle h/s (the black handstamp not recorded in Nierinck) after forwarding from BOAC Flight 781 that crashed at Italy on a flight from Singapore to London which exploded in mid flight due to a mechanical fault. The cover has faults commensurate with a wreck cover, includes sellotape affixed upon salvage. Unusual military env. from the SAS stationed in Penang for the Malayan Emergency (1948-60) to defeat a communist revolt in Malaya supporting 24 infantry battalions in Malaya from a variety of Commonwealth countries. Scarce and possibly unique. (ImageA) (ImageB)
