New Caledonia: 1877 (Mar 22) Stamp shortages cover roughly opened at the top with triangular cancel 'P.D. / AFFRANCHI / EN NUMERAIRE / FAUTE DE / TIMBRES COLONIAUX / SCE POSTES NELLE CALEDIE' on the front plus normal pmks and recieiving marks. Apparent late usage of the triangular marking showing mail travelling the Pacific Route with previous only known use was 25th March to 15th July 1875. Very scarce cover that needs further research. GIRAUD CONSTANTINOPLE to Nottingham UK bearing 1piastre on 25c black on rose (SG4) tied with CONSTANTINOPLE GALATIA TURQUIE dated cds with a further two cds's of the same; then a plethora of transit markings with RETOUR / A L'ENVOYEUR H/S in blue, boxed NOT TO BE FOUND in red and RETURNED LETTER BRANCH NOTTINGHAM cds in black on the front and RETURNED LR OFFICE LONDON cds in black and PAS TROUVE / NOT FOUND in violet on the reverse. Reunion: 1927 Cover sent from Mr. E DuPont (Expedition) in Hellbourg to Finland bearing 1F25c ovpt on 1F blue (x2) and 50c yellow and lilac tied with Hellbourg cds's with Registered 'R' HELLBOURG REUNION H/S in black alongside. Mr DuPont was a famous Conchologist studying the shells and Molluscs on the Aldabra Islands. Very interesting cover. (ImageA)
