country for the missing letter addressed to Mr Richd Tothill (part torn) refereed to in your application without success.... The American Post Office has been written to on the subject and as soon as a reply is received a further communication shall
be made to you Rowland Hill (printed) and signed Mr Charles Langley, faults but interesting letter. From 1839 a missing letter branch was formed to investigate missing or stolen letters over 500 indexed cases 1854-56 were recorded, hence the form is
acknowledged by the Secretary to the GPO Rowland Hill and must be very scarce. (ImageA)
