Major Sir John Hubert Ward KCVO (1870-1938), son of 1st Earl of Dudley, was commissioned in the Worcestershire Yeomanry and acquired this unique collection of sheets whilst serving in the Anglo-Boer War as an aide to Major Gen. John Palmer Brabazon. He later served as an equerry to four successive monarchs. Also included the lot is a fascinating 1926 letter to Ward from E.D. Bacon, Keeper of the Royal Collection at Buckingham Palace with interesting comments on the stamps “I showed the sheets to the King (George V) & His Majesty was interested in looking through them.” Photo of details from three sheets above.
