S.G. #2/512 |
S.G. #2/512, D1/39, O1/108, Extremely high cataloging mint balance of
the Gibralter Great Britain collection, nearly 600 stamps neatly
displayed in a Lighthouse hingeless album plus additional homemade pages
for varieties, with Stanley Gibbons numbers noted under each stamp (most
identifications appear correct), the collection contains not only a nice
run of major numbers, but a wealth of plate, shade and watermark varieties
as well, numerous items cataloging £300 to £1,000 each (and
several even higher); the collection begins with two Penny Blacks and a
good range of line engraved issues including plate number varieties, the
1855-83 surface printed issues possess an enormous catalog value, with
plate varieties throughout even on the better stamps, the 1887-1951 issues
contain a plethora of Gibbons listed shade varieties as well as most of the
high values (for example, there are 24 Seahorses including one £1
value), a few postage dues and some officials including the seldom offered
Board of Trade (crown over B.T.) perforated official set of 22 values, the
earlier issues are in typical mixed condition, with some faults, no gum or
regumming present, much of the later material is o.g. and fine or better; a
very valuable lot, as the total Stanley Gibbons catalog value should
approach £100,000 (Scott #1/289, J1/38, O1/79). |

S.G. #1/1154, D1-89, O5/107, Another valuable mint collection to
1981 in mounts in a Scott album, while not containing as high a catalog
value as the previous lot, there are plenty of saleable stamps to merit
attention, begins with a Penny Black and includes some high cataloging
line-engraved issues such as 1854 6p Purple, 1855 4p Carmine on bluish,
1865 Issue to 1/-, 1867-80 Issue to 2/-, 1867 5/- and more, useful run of
King Edward VII and King George V issues, the King George VI and QEII
issues are just about complete, postage dues appear complete, and the
collection concludes with over 25 official stamps, the condition on the
19th century is a little mixed as expected, although many o.g. and fine
stamps will be found, the quality on the 20th century improves, with the
majority fine-very fine and many of the QEII issues never hinged (Scott
#1/944, J1-91, O3/78). |
