S.G. #66b |
S.G. #66b, 1874 1p Deep blue, clean cut perf. 14 1/2 to 15 1/2, far better centering than the one other example in private hands, rich luxuriant color, lightly
cancelled, very fine. This stamp could be considered the rarest stamp in the entire Sovereign collection. There are only three copies known, all of which are used. One is in the Royal Collection. The other was in the Joseph Hackmey collection. The
ex-Hackmey example is excessively off-center, making the example offered here by far the finer of the two available to collectors. This example was originally in the collection of C.J.L. Snowden. It appeared at the 1935 Silver Jubilee Exhibition in
London where virtually all the great collectors of the time displayed a few items. It was sold by Hodsell Hurlock in June 1958. Considering the stamp's extreme rarity and desirability, we feel it is grossly undervalued in both Stanley Gibbons and
Scott.A fantastic opportunity to obtain one of the rarest stamps of the world. Accompanied by a 1992 BPA certificate; ex-Snowden, Hurlock (Scott #45A; $12,500.00). (Image) |
