EXTREMELY FINE. A MARVELOUS EARLY IMPRESSION AND RARE ORIGINAL-GUM MULTIPLE OF THE 1851 ONE-CENT TYPE IV CONTAINING ONE OF THE THREE TRIPLE TRANSFER/ONE INVERTED POSITIONS ON PLATE ONE LATE.
On Plate 1 Early, Position 81L not only showed the inverted transfer, but also had a break in the bottom line, thus qualifying it as a Type IIIa. When the third entry was made during the reworking of Plate 1, the bottom part of the design was strengthened and the outer completed. This early impression shows all of the distinctive Position 81L1L features.
Ex Neinken. Scott Retail $2,700.00 as an 81L1L single and pair of normal Type IV. (Image)
