The Steven C. Walske Collection of Civil War Special Routes - May 27, 2010

The special mail routes used to convey mail across the lines during the American Civil War have long fascinated collectors and researchers. Steven C. Walske, who broke ground with his award-winning exhibit and research, formed the largest and most comprehensive collection of Special Mail Route covers ever assembled. The collection will be offered in a staggering 394-lot sale, presented in a deluxe 300-page hardcover catalogue. Color photographs, well-researched descriptions, maps and historical images provide collectors with the means to thoroughly appreciate and understand these fascinating postal artifacts. Sections include Expresses, "Southern Letter Unpaid" Covers, Flag-of-Truce Mail, P.O.W. and Parole Camp Mail, Trans-Mississippi Routes, Louisiana Relief Committee Mail, Blockade-Run Covers (the largest offering ever made of these historic covers) and Trans-Rio Grande Routes.
