895   Dr. Kilmer & Co. Comprehensive collection of the stamps of the 1894-98 Issue used as provisional Revenue stamps, mounted on quadrille pages and originally formed by Morton Dean Joyce and offered intact, virtually all of the great rarities are represented incl. one 1c with both red and black I.R. overprints, Nos. RS309b (only four are recorded), inverted overprints on 3c, various type styles, fantastic range of type variations noted on pages, also some corollary items such as large part of box with 2c stamp affixed, illustrated letterheads in various colors incl. one stating "the two U.S. postage stamps which we used and cancelled for Internal Revenue and genuine. As we could not procure the regular Internal Revenue stamps to apply to our preparations when this law went into effect during the Spanish-American War....we took it upon ourselves to use U.S. postage stamps and precancel the same for Internal Revenue stamps so as not to put our business at a standstill. We used several thousand dollars worth of postage stamps in this way", also incl. illustrated circulars, advertising covers and enclosures, trade cards, pages from booklet on swamp-root
