30-CENT DEEP CLARET POSTAGE DUE ISSUE. ON1901, 30c Deep Claret, Postage Due (J7). Bottom imprint and plate no. 73 block of six, slightly tropicalized original gum, bright shade and detailed impression

VERY FINE. A RARE PLATE BLOCK OF THE 1901 30-CENT DEEP CLARET POSTAGE DUE ISSUE. ONLY TWO ARE RECORDED.

In our opinion this plate block is undercatalogued in Scott. The 50c of the previous series, which had three times as many stamps issued, has the same catalogue value. As another indication of rarity, none was contained in the Lilly, Tows, Plass or Wampler collections. Todd had one, also from the bottom position, with a thin spot at top center. This was acquired privately in 1975 from the First Bureau collection of Robert H. Feldman Sr. (Image)
