FINE. ONE OF THE RAREST OF THE PERF 10 VARIETIES.
The 1c 1917 with Perf 10 at top or bottom is one of the rarest of all Perf 10 varieties. Our records contain the following in unused condition: four singles, two in a block of four, two in a plate block of six (offered in our 2004 Rarities sale), and four in a block of 25 (offered in our October 2006 auction). Five are also known used.

A FINE AND EXCEEDINGLY RARE MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT A.E.F. BOOKLET PANE. IT IS BELIEVED THAT NO MORE THAN 20 EXIST IN ANY CONDITION. THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND MINT N.H. PANE WE HAVE OFFERED.
The A.E.F. booklet panes were issued in September 1917, primarily for use by the American Expeditionary Forces in Europe during World War I. Only 3,000 panes were prepared of both the 1c and 2c denominations. By October they were no longer needed, as Congress voted to allow mail to be sent free of charge by active members of the Armed Forces. Many of the panes were destroyed. The only other Mint N.H. pane sold by us was part of the Zoellner collection in 1998.
