EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1879 10-CENT AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY ISSUE. THIS DISTINCTIVE INKING VARIETY IS VERY SCARCE AND HIGHLY DESIRABLE, ESPECIALLY ON SUCH A CHOICE STAMP.
With 1984 and 1999 P.F. certificates (Image)
VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT 1879 AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY ISSUE WITH SECRET MARK.
Unlike other values of the 1879 Issue, there are virtually no 10c stamps in Mint Never-Hinged condition. A thorough review of auction catalogues, including sales of the Caspary, Close, Sinkler, Col. Green, Lilly, Braus, Wunderlich and Klein collections, among others, produced no Mint N.H. singles and no blocks containing Mint N.H. stamps. We doubt that more than a half-dozen or so Mint N.H. copies exist in total.
With 1999 P.F. certificate (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A STUNNING MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 1879 15-CENT AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY ISSUE. THIS IMPRESSIVE STAMP HAS BEEN AWARDED THE GRADE OF GEM 100 BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED TO DATE AND THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO ACHIEVE THIS PERFECT GRADE.
We acknowledge that several large multiples, including a pane of 100, have been broken in recent years to feed collector demand for singles, particularly in Mint N.H. condition. This has driven up the population of Mint N.H. singles. However, very few stamps out of those multiples are well-centered -- many are off to one or two sides and would not grade very highly.
The stamp offered here is the exception to the rule. It is mathematically centered. The color is as fresh as the day it was printed, without even a hint of the oxidation that can plague this issue. The impression is detailed, and the perfs are all long and well-formed. It truly deserves the Gem 100 grade it was given.
With 1990 and 1999 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (Gem 100). This is the only example to achieve this grade to date, and this is the highest grade awarded. (Image)
VERY FINE AND CHOICE. AN EXTRAORDINARY MINT NEVER-HINGED 30-CENT 1879 AMERICAN BANK NOTE ISSUE. THIS ISSUE IS RARELY OBTAINABLE IN CHOICE NEVER-HINGED CONDITION.
The 30c 1879 American Bank Note Company issue is surprisingly difficult to obtain in choice Mint N.H. condition. It is surprising because the 15c (Scott 189) is readily available. However, a survey of our photo records and auction library revealed the scarcity of well-centered 30c blocks from which singles could be removed. A review of Power Search found only seven other Mint N.H. singles.
With 1992 and 1998 P.F. certificates. (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE. A RARE MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 90-CENT 1879 AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY ISSUE.
A review using Power Search shows we have offered only four others in Mint N.H. condition since keeping computerized records.
With 1985 and 1995 P.F. certificates (Image)
VERY FINE AND CHOICE RIGHT SELVAGE BLOCK OF FOUR OF THE 90-CENT 1879 AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY ISSUE.
Most blocks of 19th Century stamps containing such attractive stamps have been broken to feed collector demand for singles.
Ex Moody and Klein as a block of eight. With 1989, 1998 and 2003 P.F. certificates, the first as a block of eight. (Image)
