2404 c Stampless Covers. 40 covers showing a wide range of usages and dates, from the Colonial period through the 1850's, among the highlights is a 1790 folded letter to Philadelphia with a "Richmond, Nov 10" straightline handstamp, several other Colonial folded letters from the 1780's to 1790's, a range of forwarders, ship letters, a Vera Cruz Consulate cover and cross-border usages, free franks include lettersheets (no content) from Richard Rush, Treasury Secretary under President John Quincy Adams, as well as Congressman Thaddeus Stevens, who was among the first of the Civil War Congressional Republicans to call for full emancipation of the slaves, also a ship cover addressed to Massachusetts Senator Charles Sumner, overall a fascinating group with much content for both the postal historian and the history buff

Two Virginia men, perhaps 1,000 items ranging from the late 1820's to 1870's, incl. stampless covers, few 3c 1851's, all folded vertically for filing purpose, we note one 1845 letter referring to the scarcity of "Negrows" (sic)..."I have not seen eny (sic) in the market such as you described but will purchase if I can meet with eny (sic) I am doubtful whether they can be bought for less than $500 if that", there may be other slave related items but we failed to find any in a sampling of the material, also incl. some later material, picture post cards, several virtually empty stamp albums and other miscellany, interesting historical lot
