FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE FIRST DAY COVER OF THE 1851 3-CENT ORANGE BROWN. ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED FIRST DAY USAGES OF THE 3-CENT STAMP FROM NEW YORK.

In his census in the Sesquicentennial book, Wilson Hulme records a total of 43 covers used on July 1, 1851, which is the first day they were valid for postage. 1851 Issue first day covers rarely appear at auction -- the last time we offered one was in our Martin sale in March 2005.
