VERY FINE AND CHOICE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT 1857 TYPE IV. ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE FROM THIS POSITION.
The 1857 10c Type IV stamps come from eight positions scattered throughout Plate 1 that have the top, bottom or both lines recut. Only 4% of all 10c Plate 1 stamps produced were Type IV's, and an even smaller percentage was issued with perforations. This is the only position on the right pane of the plate which was recut.

EXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. ONLY THREE PLATE BLOCKS OF THE 10-CENT 1857 TYPE V ARE RECORDED -- A GREAT CLASSIC PLATE BLOCK RARITY.
Despite the relative availability of singles and smaller multiples of the 10c Type V, the plate block offered here is exceedingly rare. Plate blocks are not listed or known from Plate 1, and only three full plate blocks are recorded from Plate 2 (all subjects on this plate are the Type V design, Scott 35).
This plate block of eight and the largest recorded multiple -- the plate block of 42 -- were in the John C. Chapin collection. When that collection was acquired by William H. Gross, he kept the block of 42 for his exhibit and sold this plate block of eight.
As a side note, if one were to collect plate blocks based on the new Major Design Types album created by P.S.E., then this would be the only available 10c 1857 Perforated Issue available in plate block form.
