vertical crease and a second part impressioNew Orleans La., 5c Brown on Bluish, Printed on Both Sides (62X4a). Large margins all around, tied by "New Orleans La. Dec. 3" (1861) circular datestamp on folded cover to East Baton Rouge La., stamp has a vertical crease and a second part impression on back, evidently due to printing, stamp lifted and hinged in place to show reverse, cover with minor faults and edge wear

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THE ONLY RECORDED COVER BEARING THE 5-CENT PRINTED-ON-BOTH-SIDES ERROR.

The shade and impression of this stamp are unusual for the Scott-listed Red Brown on Bluish 62X4 -- it is a dull Brown color, not Red Brown, but the paper is definitely bluish. The Scott Catalogue lists the Brown on White printed on both sides (62X3a) on cover, but the listing may be based on this cover. This may be the only cover extant with the 5c printed-on-both-sides error.
