VERY FINE AND RARE USAGE OF THE PROVISIONAL HANDSTAMP TO CANCEL THE 5-CENT PROVISIONAL STAMP. ONLY 12 TO 15 EXAMPLES KNOWN.
Ex Brown and Hall (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE NEW ORLEANS POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL ON A COVER WITH A CONFEDERATE PACKET BOAT MARKING.
Ex Caspary and Hill. With 1986 C.S.A. certificate (Image)
VERY FINE APPEARANCE. THE ONLY RECORDED COVER BEARING THE 5-CENT PRINTED-ON-BOTH-SIDES ERROR.
The shade and impression of this stamp are unusual for the Scott-listed Red Brown on Bluish 62X4 -- it is a dull Brown color, not Red Brown, but the paper is definitely bluish. The Scott Catalogue lists the Brown on White printed on both sides (62X3a) on cover, but the listing may be based on this cover. This may be the only cover extant with the 5c printed-on-both-sides error.
Ex Caspary and Skinner. (Image)
