VERY FINE. AN OUTSTANDING 1851 ISSUE COVER WITH THE RARE SAVANNAH "MAIL ROUTE" STRAIGHTLINE AND A ONE-CENT PLUS THREE-CENT COMBINATION.

The rare "Mail Route" marking was applied to mail picked up by contract mail steamers near Savannah and was used instead of a "Way" marking (Simpson-Alexander rarity 9). The combination of this marking and a 1c plus 3c franking is ideal. (Image)
