Early Nesbitt entire with horizontal instead of diagonal laid lines and seal on flap, to Horne Pa., "Blood's Despatch Nov. 5, 4-1/2 P.M." and blue "Philadelphia Pa. Nov. 5" circular datestamps, 1853 docketing on back, slight wear, otherwise Very Fine, postal stationery specialist Ken Lawrence replied to our inquiry about this entire: "Fabulous item. Yes, horizontally laid with horizontal watermark is scarce (approximately 50 in my census [47 canceled with seals, unique canceled without seal in note size, 4 not canceled with seals], Maisel estimated no more than 80, feel free to cite either or both), and I have never heard of one with any Blood's stamp or any other local, and only one with an express frank" -- need we say more? VERY FINE. ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED EXAMPLES OF BLOOD'S EMBOSSED STAMP ON A BLUE ENVELOPE.

The other example of 15LU10 was offered in the Hall sale (Siegel Sale 830, lot 473, realized $6,000 hammer). It is dated June 28, 1855, and is addressed in the same hand as the cover offered here.

Sixth" double-line circle (4/24/1850 and 11/23/1851), same marking with post office "Free" handstamp, several with small "Pre-Paid" serrated circle handstamp incl. one addressed to "U.S. Post Office, New York" with red "5" in circle railroad marking and another with blue "1" drop rate handstamp, "Blood's Despatch Paid" circle on large printed speech, "Blood's Despatch 2 Cts" rimless circle unpaid usage, last item is an account statement for stamps on Blood's Penny Post billhead (badly dampstained), generally Very Fine strikes and attractive exhibit-worthy covers E. 500-750
