ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED LARGE DIE PROOFS FOR THIS ISSUE. A GREAT RARITY.

In the Neinken book (p. 19), he theorizes that this die proof was made sometime after the 1857 contract was extended, and possibly was from a die made especially for the 1875 Reprint.

FINE AND EXTREMELY RARE. ONE OF ONLY FIVE PAIRS USED ON COVER TO CANADA, OF WHICH A TOTAL OF SEVEN COVERS ARE RECORDED.

Two of the seven usages are paid by two singles. Of the 24 pairs on cover recorded in our census, this is the only known used from Illinois.
