4c Columbian, Error of
Color (233a). Original gum which is very lightly hinged, the more
intense of the two error shades, fresh and bright paper VERY FINE. A
MAGNIFICENT SOUND ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE RARE 4-CENT COLUMBIAN ERROR
OF COLOR. The 4c Columbian color error was caused by the use of a
wrong batch of ink, and spectrographic analysis has shown that the blue
inks of the 4c error and 1c Columbian have the same components. There are
two slightly different shades of the 4c error, this being the deeper of the
two. This stamp is remarkable for its pristine gum, its rich color and
its overall freshness. Most examples of this rarity do not approach its
freshness. With 1975 and 1984 P.F. certificates. (Image) |
