Lot Sym. Lot Description
1233   ImageNEWFOUNDLAND, 1857, 1sh Scarlet Vermilion (9; SG 9). Large margins to close but clearing at top, intensely rich color and a well-incised impression, light grid cancel

A RARE FOUR-MARGIN SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 ONE-SHILLING SCARLET VERMILION.

The One-Shilling value of the 1857 Series is notorious for having little or no margins around. In addition, most examples have faults to some degree. The copy offered here is one of the few four-margin sound examples available.

Ex Wellburn. With 1983 B.P.A. certificate. SG £9,000. Unitrade C$14,000.00 (Image)
