Turks Islands thru Zululand
Lot Sym. Lot Description
3571° og ImageTURKS ISLANDS, 1887, 1p Crimson Lake, Horizontal Pair, Imperforate Between (SG 58a). Position R3/4-5, left stamp with "throat flaw" variety, original gum, deeply rich color and a well-incised impression

VERY FINE. ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE 1887 ONE-PENNY HORIZONTAL PAIR, IMPERFORATE BETWEEN. AN IMPORTANT RARITY OF TURKS ISLANDS.

There can at most be three error pairs in existence. However, only one other has been recorded, the Dale-Lichtenstein pair, which is position R2/4-5. The example offered here is the only one with the constant "throat flaw" variety.

Not only the key error stamp of Turks Islands, but also one of the important rarities of the entire British Commonwealth.

Ex William Frazer. With 1949 R.P.S. certificate. SG value (Image)
