EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 6-CENT 1879 AMERICAN BANK NOTE ISSUE.

100° nh Image10c Brown, With Secret Mark (188). Mint N.H., rich color and sharp proof-like impression, choice centering with wide margins

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB MINT NEVER-HINGED 10-CENT 1879 AMERICAN ISSUE WITH SECRET MARK.

Unlike other values of the 1879 Issue, there are virtually no 10c stamps in Mint Never-Hinged condition. A thorough review of auction catalogues, including sales of the Caspary, Close, Sinkler, Col. Green, Lilly, Braus, Wunderlich and Klein collections, among others, produced no Mint N.H. singles and no blocks containing Mint N.H. stamps. We doubt that more than four or five Mint N.H. copies exist in total.

Ex Drucker (our Sale 851, where it realized $11,500 hammer). Ex "Scarsdale" (our Sale 924, where it realized $13,000 hammer). With 2002 P.F. certificate. This is the first in Mint N.H. condition we have offered since 2009. (Image)

101° nh Image30c Full Black (190). Mint N.H., intense shade and sharp proof-like impression, beautifully centered with enormous margins, single perf disc at bottom rests lightly on gum

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. AN EXTRAORDINARY MINT NEVER-HINGED 30-CENT 1879 AMERICAN BANK NOTE ISSUE. THIS ISSUE IS RARELY OBTAINABLE IN CHOICE NEVER-HINGED CONDITION.

The 30c 1879 American Bank Note Company issue is surprisingly difficult to obtain in choice Mint N.H. condition. It is surprising because the 15c (Scott 189) is readily available. However, a survey of our photo records and auction library revealed the scarcity of well-centered 30c blocks from which singles could be harvested. The blocks in the Green sales were off center. Caspary had a well-centered hinged block of four, and Lilly had a block of nine with problems. The Moody block of six was well-centered, but appears to have had hinge remnants on all stamps. The Todd collection had two blocks, including one with a Mint N.H. pair at bottom (this has probably been broken, furnishing at least two Mint N.H. stamps). The Close collection had a well-centered block of four (with reinforcing) and a large plate block. The Siegel firm's three major Bank Note Issue sales (Braus, Hirschfield, Wunderlich) contained blocks, but all were either off center or had hinge remnants. A well-centered block of four appeared in our 1982 Rarities sale, but it was hinged.

For the collector who desires only Mint Never-Hinged stamps, this offering is significant. As a guide to relative value, a Mint N.H. example of this stamp in the Fox collection (Sale 829) realized $12,000 hammer. The four in Mint N.H. condition we have offered since our 2006 "Scarsdale" sale have inferior centering.

102° nh Image90c Rose (191). Mint N.H., brilliant color in the Rose sub-shade, very well-centered

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. ONE OF THE FINEST MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLES OF THE 90-CENT AMERICAN BANK NOTE CO. 1879 ISSUE IN EXISTENCE, WHICH IS GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E. -- THE HIGHEST GRADE ON RECORD AND ONE OF ONLY TWO STAMPS TO ACHIEVE IT.

The 90c 1879 American Bank Note Co. Issue is extremely difficult to obtain in choice Mint Never-Hinged condition, because of the small supply of well-centered blocks from which Mint N.H. singles could be harvested. We have offered only a few Mint N.H. examples of Scott 191, and none of them can rival the superb quality of this stamp.

With 2006 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $43,500.00). This is the highest grade awarded, and only one other has achieved it. (Image)
