1272 c The Peter G. DuPuy Collection of New Hampshire Postal History. Huge collection of covers in multiple boxes, comprising most of the DuPuy eight-frame exhibit of New Hampshire stampless covers as well as many hundreds of additional covers, the exhibit is mostly complete with only a handful of covers removed, it traces the development of post offices in New Hampshire from 1743-1857 (earliest cover remaining in the exhibit is 1786), with manuscript markings, numerous straightlines and a wide variety of other town and auxiliary handstamps, demonstrating uses and rates incl. the 1815-16 War Rates and the Restored Rates of 1816, the Portsmouth straightlines alone include more than 17 examples in both red and black (plus others outside the exhibit), numerous better handstamps with some fancy incl. red "Horn of Plenty" of Amoskeag, red octagon rosettes of Exeter, unusual blank circle with ms. town and dates from Candia, dotted circles and ovals, single-line arcs, small and large straightlines, negative "Paid" inside numerals 3 and 6, variety of colors incl. green, rates in addition to the War Rates incl. free, circular "1", a number of Canadian and Trans-Atlantic rates, as well as the full range of domestic rates seen during the period, better uses incl. a scarce newspaper wrapper, several missent and forwarded, many others, the exhibit collection covers are almost universally fresh and Very Fine, representing many years of dedicated study and acquisition, the huge number of covers outside the exhibit trace some of the same ground in stampless with somewhat lesser quality examples than in the exhibit, also a full range of stamped covers from the 1851 Issue through the Washington-Franklins, most written up on labels, numerous items that were purchased as individual lots in the $50-$200 range, overall an outstanding collection of this state which will take the dedicated viewer some time to properly appreciate and digest
