Horizontal strip of four with bottom left corner selvage with full imprint and "No." of plate number, original gum, better centering than usually found on multiples of this issue, vignette shifted slightly to left and breaking thru outer line of frame, right stamp expertly rejoined, insignificant crease at bottom left of selvage caused by foldover prior to gumming and not mentioned on accompanying certificate

FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE MULTIPLE OF THE 15-CENT TYPE II 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE FROM THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER OF THE SHEET, SHOWING THE FULL IMPRINT AND PART OF THE PLATE NUMBER. A WONDERFUL EXHIBITION ITEM.

The 15c 1869 Pictorial Issue was printed from plates of 100 subjects. There were imprint and plate numbers at top printed in the color of the frame, and corresponding imprint and plate numbers at bottom printed in the color of the vignette. The Chapin census records a top part imprint and plate number block of six (ex Wunderlich) and two blocks of 20 with imprint and plate number from the bottom right corner of the plate. This strip, with full imprint and part plate number, may well be the only existing multiple from the bottom left portion of the plate.

Ex "European." With 2003 P.S.E. certificate. Scott Retail as pair and two singles with no premium for the selvage. (Image)
