Airmail, 1930, $2.60 Graf Zeppelin, group of five different Panelli forgery "Trial Color Proofs" (Scott C15(CF1)), in
purple, green black, brown, red and orange, the purple on heavier paper with deckle edges, the others on normal-weight smooth-edged proof paper ("Vellum Prints" in the word of the accompanying certificates), all crisp and clean with 65 x 46mm die
sinkage on approximately 105 x 67mm paper (some slight variances), alluring colors and clean, fresh paper throughout, Very Fine, an exceedingly rare group, each with 2024 Hofrichter VPP certificate.
According to the certificate,
"Panelli had single-color prints produced from his printing plate—in six different colors and on Velin papers of varying weights," and that of the three original printing plates, "only a single special proof was produced from
each—specifically for a presentation portfolio intended for Dr. Hugo Eckener," today in the National Postal Museum in Washington, DC.
