L 31 was a German Naval zeppelin commanded by Captain Mathy. On Oct. 1, 1916 he joined in a raid on England by several zeppelins. About 8:00 PM the L31 was caught in the beams of three searchlights. 2nd Lieut. Tempest in his BE2c attacked and set fire to the zeppelin. The airship crashed with no survivors
