Likely written by Shemuel Seaton Curry who later died on Aug 18, 1862 at home in Abbeville, Henry County Alabama while on furlough to recover from a wound received May 31, 1862 at Seven Pines Virginia while serving in Company A, 6th Alabama Infantry.

593   imageCONFEDERACY 1864 Confederate Soldier's Letter, four page letter to his father headed Petersburg VA. July 4th, 1864. The writer is W.G. Roand who was attached to the CSA Quartermasters Department, Railroad Bureau, reads in part "…I have moved my hdqrts to this place, but Gen. Grant has unfortunately done or nearly done the same thing…Grant has certainly got the best positions…His guns command the town and he has been keeping up a slow fire on it…Early--now in command of Ewell's Corps--was at Staunton when last heard from…"Trememdous documentation of the war in progress, from the Confederate side. Letters of this quality and importance seldom appear on the market. Minor separations at folds., Very Fine.
