POSTAL HISTORY: 1914 (July 25) oversize envelope (156x124mm) registered to Germany with Marshall Islands Yachts 1m red & 2m blue
tied by four largely very fine strikes of 'NAURU/MARSHALL-/INSELN' bridge cds cancel and 'Nauru/(Marshall Ins.)' red & black/white R label alongside on the face, carried via the USA with New York '9-22' & '9-23' transits and Breslau '-7.10.14'
arrival backstamps, a few very minor blemishes. After the outbreak of World War I, Australian troops landed on Nauru on 9.9.1914 and destroyed the German wireless station equipment. The USA initially remained neutral, allowing mail for Germany to be
routed to destination. Albeit a philatelic franking, this is a very scarce item from the last mail despatch from Nauru before the Australian Occupation. (Image1) (Image2)
