bends, mounted on the upper-left unit & in the margin behind the monogram otherwise unmounted, Cat $4325+ for a mounted monogram strip of 3 plus one mounted & two unmounted singles (£420+ for normal mint singles). Ex Kevin Nelson - sold in 2002 for
$2535 - and 'Dubois' (III): sold in 2023 for SFr1095. Peter O'Rourke's Die II 'CA' Monogram strip of 3 - overall aging & a couple of tiny tonepsots - sold at our auction of 27.4.2022 for $4310. (Image1) (Image2)

9d violet ACSC 25A (SG 27), exceptional centring, the faintest evidence of having been mounted, Cat $350 (£225). Superb. The 9d is
notorious for being poorly-centred. We expect no more than 1 in 1000 are this well-centred. (Image1) (Image2)

1/- bright blue-green SG 28 Plate 2 'JBC' Monogram strip of 3 ACSC 31(2)zb with full monogram, a jumped row of perfs at the base
but still well-centred, the monogram unit mounted, the other units superb unmounted, Cat $35,000. Another extremely rare monogram strip. Superior to Peter O'Rourke's mounted strip of 3 - "light aging and toned perf" - that sold in 2020 for $17,885. (Image1) (Image2)

1/- deep dull blue-green SG 28 (unlisted shade) Plate 1 'CA' Monogram strip of 3 ACSC 31D(1)z with full monogram, very well-centred
and of exceptional freshness, the first unit with tiny (natural?) spot on 'G' of 'POSTAGE' otherwise superb unmounted, Cat $35,000 for a mounted strip of 3 in the standard shades. A magnificent showpiece of the highest rarity. Ex Arthur Gray: sold in
2007 for US$24,150 (= A$33,540 at the time, or A$37,150 today). Second Watermark monograms are underrated. The marvellous Stuart Hardy collection didn't have even a monogram single above 6d. Better centred than Peter O'Rourke's superb unmounted block
of 8 - apparently in the same shade but described as "emerald" - that sold in 2020 for $34,580. In both the Arthur Gray sale and when subsequently re-offered, this strip has been described as "bright blue-green" (for comparison, see the next lot),
which it is not. It's a dramatically deeper shade, closer to grey than it is to green. Note that the ACSC does not give a price for a mint example of this shade (listed as "deep dull green", although all the stamps from this issue are variants of
blue-green, not of green). A used example is priced at $1500, which is 10-15 times the price of the normal shades. (Image1) (Image2)

2/- brown SG 29 Plate 2 with Break in Left Frame Opposite Base of 'AUSTRALIA' ACSC 36(2)m, light 'HOCHKIRCH/JU21/15/VICTORIA' cds,
Cat $600 (SG £225 for normal stamp). Superb. Rarely available this fine, especially with a listed variety. During World War I, anti-German feelings resulted in many place-names being changed. On 1.3.1918, Hochkirch (= high church) became Tarrington,
but the old datestamp remained in use for a short period. (Image1) (Image2)

Peter O'Rourke's similar pair - monogram below the left-hand unit - sold in 2020 for $13,710. (Image1) (Image2)

3d olive ACSC 13 (SG 37), untidy but obvious 'MELBOURNE/25SE15/[VICTORIA]' cds. The ACSC states that the first printing was in
-.8.1915 but that the Earliest Recorded Date is 8.10.1915. This is the new ERD by a remarkable 12 days. Our vendor states it is also the ERD for any Third Watermark stamp. (Image1) (Image2)

3d green-olive Plate 1 Die II-I pair ACSC 13K-Lc (SG 37ba) being the lower-left pair in a TS Harrison Imprint block of 6 (3x2) with
Jubilee Lines #13(1)zf, well-centred for an imprint piece, the upper-central unit very lightly mounted otherwise unmounted, Cat $6000+ for a mounted imprint block of 4 and unmounted Die I-II pair (£760+ for mounted Die I-II pair plus four mounted
singles). Ex Kevin Nelson: sold in 2002 for $2690 (Sale 95 Lot 2211). Superb. Far superior to Peter O'Rourke's mounted block of 4 - with no Die II unit and undescribed overall gum disturbance - that sold in 2020 for $1670. (Image1) (Image2)

6d Die II die proof in red-brown on white wove paper ACSC 21DP(1), the paper (79x99mm) hinged onto protective card and with a few
small natural inclusions but the impression is unaffected and superb, Cat $37,500. Ex John Ash, JB Williamson & Lord Vestey: sold in 2014 for £22,800.
The ACSC states that three examples have been recorded. The 'Artemis' example - ex 'Chartwell' with a significant Colour Flaw in the Indian Ocean off Geraldton, a Partial Offset on the Reverse and a minor corner crease - sold at our auction of
1.12.2021 for $17,700 (when catalogued at $25,000). It was our contention there that it and the Arthur Gray example - with poorly cut right-hand frame on smaller piece (31x34mm); sold for US$29,900 and again for £19,200 as part of The Morgan
Collection - were rejected, but that the example offered here was found satisfactory. All three proofs are Die II, but the issued stamps are all Die IIB. This again prompts our suggestion that these proofs were produced at an earlier time - perhaps
before the printings in blue, the original printings of which are Die II - making them of far greater significance than has previously been accepted. (Image1)
