BLACK OVERPRINT: 'S.C.' (Error of Lettering for 'S.G.') on QV De La Rue Crown/SA Wmk Rouletted 2d pale orange SG DO506a, rouletting
on all sides, light corner crease at upper-left, GPO cds of 'OC7/69', unpriced unused or used by Gibbons. Unlisted by Ron Butler and only one other example known to us - see the next lot - so it should be rated RRRRR. Ex Gary Diffen: sold for £480.
However, it was stated there "about five examples known". We believe this was a reference to the error on the Perf 10 stamp, a statement that was repeated for Gary Diffen's next lot, his example of SG DO512a, Cat £400, that also sold for £480: see
Lot 680.
Note that there was no allocation of the De La Rue 2d to the Supreme Court before 1873. Any 'S.C' stamp that is dated before 1873 must be an error for 'S.G.' (Image1) (Image2)

BLACK OVERPRINT: 'S.C.' (Error of Lettering for 'S.G.') on QV De La Rue Crown/SA Wmk Rouletted 2d dull orange SG DO506a being the
right-hand unit in a Setenant Pair with Normal from the left of the sheet with vertical marginal watermark line at left, rouletting on all sides and between the units, GPO cds of 'OC7/69', unpriced unused or used by Gibbons. Unlisted by Ron Butler
and only one other example of the 'S.C.' error known to us - see the previous lot - so it should be rated RRRRR. Ex Hugh Wynn and 'Tamiami': sold for $27,555 (Sale 236 Lot 699). RPSV Certificate (2019). Perhaps the most important item in the entire
Departmentals Series.
Tony Presgrave from South Australia has advised us that the De La Rue 2d was issued to the Supreme Court only in 1873, and that was the Perf 10 issue. Consequently, any examples dated prior to that, and certainly of the Rouletted 2d (which was
unknown in this country prior to 2019), must be errors of lettering for 'S.G.' (Image1) (Image2)
