GPO cds of 'MY28/68' clear of the 'C' in 'R.C.', Cat £1000+ for singles, unpriced as a se-tenant pair. Unlisted by Ron Butler but three examples have been recorded so it should be rated RRRRR, and RRRRRR for the se-tenant proving pair. Ex Don Pearce:
sold for $1245 (Sale 247 Lots 649 & 650). Don's other, very fine example pf the 'R.C.' error sold for $1375 (Sale 247 Lot 651). Absent from the Colonel Napier, Lord Vestey and 'Besancon' collections. [This error has also been recorded on a single 6d,
and should also exist on the 1/-]
We are bemused that we missed the connection between the two stamps in the Pearce sale. As a se-tenant pair they represent one of the most significant items in the entire Departmentals Series. (Image1) (Image2)
