Carried by 'Ellora' departing Marseilles 28.1.1865 to Alexandria and overland to Suez, by 'Mooltan' departing 7.2.1865 to Galle, Ceylon and 'Bombay' to Melbourne. The 10d per ½oz 'via Marseilles' rate applied from 1863 until 1870, when the route was altered to transit via Brindisi due to the Franco-Prussian War, and the rate was reduced to 9d later that year.
