Photographs of Every Description…San Francisco" advertising corner card; small stamp and cover flaws including tear into postmark and slight reduction at top, Fine appearance, a rare solo domestic usage of the 1870 24¢ Banknote paying eight times the rate, cover most certainly contained a cabinet photo, ex-Fosdyke-Ray, with 2000 P.F. certificate and 1929 affidavit.

Carleton E. Watkins is considered one of the greatest photographers of the American West. Born in New York, he moved to California and quickly became interested in photography. He focused mainly on landscape photography and Yosemite Valley was a favorite subject of his. His photographs of the valley significantly influenced the United States Congress' decision to preserve it as a National Park.
