1229 og/O   imageItalian States, 1851-1868 mint & used specialized collection, neatly-mounted on black quadrille pages, identified by the collector per Michel, the collector having made great efforts to obtain varieties of shade, paper, etc, a mix of mint and used throughout, with Modena including both the 1852-7 issues and 1859 Provisional Government issues, the the majority of the first issues being used, with 5c (x4), 10c (x4), 15c (x4), 25c (x4), and 1l, the Provisional Government unused and generally appearing to be reprints, Naples with eighteen examples of the Coat of Arms issues, from ½g to 50g denominations (the two 50g examples being dubious), Roman States, 1852/1868, Papal Arms, the 1852 imperforate issues largely used, with examples of the ½b to 8b values, the 1867 imperforate Arms issues on Glazed Paper largely mint, while the subsequent perforated issues mostly used, typical faults for classic material, some 1852 issues cut to shape, Romagna with examples of the ½b to 5b, Parma with 1852 Crown & Fleur-de-lis issues from 5c through 5c black on blue, Sardinia predominantly represented by the 1855-63 embossed Victor Emmanuel II issues, over fifty examples, including one 40c strip of three, displaying a diverse range of shades of the 5c, 10c, 20c, 40c, 80c, and 3l, as well as the ½c black Newspaper stamp, Sicily with 1859 Ferdinand II imperforates with the ½g (x1), 1gr (x2), 2g (x3), 5g (x1), and 20g (x1), and Tuscany with a range of 1851-2 and 1857-9 Lion issues, including examples on white or blue/gray paper, and 1860 Coat of Arms (1c through 40c), also with a variety of shades represented, typical faults for classic material, reprints and dubious examples present as commonly found, but an ideal reference collection, assembled by a diligent collector over many years, a superb nucleus for an advanced study of this challenging classic field.
