1870-1897, Small Queen extensive high-quality used collection, comprised of 161 stamps including ½¢ (7), 1c (32), 2c (36), 3c (37), 5c (14), 6c (15), 8c (10) and 10c (10), an impressive collection made up of high-quality stamps purchased and assembled one at a time by a fastidious collector showing a comprehensive representation of the printings, perforations and shades of the issue, each stamp being consistently well centred and very fine or better (except for #37i, the 3c on thick soft paper, which is off-centred as always, and catalogued as such). Collector’s lifetime accumulation of 3,000+ Small Queens, on page and stocksheets in large binder, virtually all 3c values but does contain a few other denominations, including unused 5c olive green (#38) and three used 10c, the heart of this accumulation being the 3c mostly selected for dated and town cancels, including 332 stamps dated 1880 to 1889 (these in somewhat mixed condition but difficult to find in quantities for these Montreal printing years), a small group on pieces with duplex cancels from 1870s-1880s, 1,048 stamp mounted on pages sorted alphabetically in 2 groups by town (primarily Ontario towns), about 1,500 other 3c values with town/dated cancels from coast-to-coast, and a group of 70 items in “102” cards priced at $580 including a few copper red (#37b), the 3c stamps overall quite nice with the other values of mixed quality, many hours of enjoyment for the town cancel or calendar collector.
