Great Britain
LotNo. Symbol Cat No. Lot Description
402 E/P   image1840s (circa), Earl Grey, printed by Charles Whiting of Savoy House, London, lilac and blue embossed head, approximately 155mm x 185mm, prepared to illustrate the capabilities Whiting's patented Congreve printing process, this being one a series of portraits published in Kendal & Sons "Royal Cameo Scrapbook of Embossed Heads", without the typical damage found on reverse, suggesting this may have been prepared for promotional purposes, a beautiful collateral item for an early collection of Great Britain; Whiting submitted a number of designs to the 1839 Treasury Competition.
