P.M. just received news by wire that the mail boat will be here 4 in the morning, with Auntie and Uncle Nield and Aunt Mary Ann on board", Auntie Nield was Rosalind Amelia Young-Nield who died on the Island 24 days later, very fine; a fascinating and extremely rare cover, this being the only recorded example of this unlisted cachet type. 1943), these are identical to the issued booklet with the same cover thaS.G. #SB1 var., 1940 King George V complete booklet, a provisional booklet made up by Postmaster Roy Clark after the original supply of booklets was exhausted (approximately 1943), these are identical to the issued booklet with the same cover that folds around, and including a single stamp of each value of the first issue of Pitcairn issue and identical wax paper interleaving, the 2/6 value in this booklet is a top right corner single with control no. 255, Clark lacked a stapler so he used a small paper fastener to hold the booklet together, fresh and attractive, all the covers that were available to the Clark had small flaws, this has a faint diagonal bend, very fine; the interesting origin of these booklets is revealed in a letter from Roy Clark to Dr. Arthur Delaney after the war, "..of our first issue (1940) a few booklets were sent here for sale. These were soon sold out. The Government never has renewed booklets, though I did for a few friends of mine make up a few empty covers that came with the shipment. I have no idea of the number of booklets sold. Those I made were not many."; it is believe that less than fifteen booklets were made by Postmaster Roy Clark; another great booklet rarity of Pitcairn Island. (Image) Est. $2,000-3,000

1715 c 1936-40 Pitcairn postal history collection of ten covers posted through the New Zealand postal agency, includes a 1936 Karl Lewis illustrated cover, a 1937 1p New Zealand Coronation FDC with a letter by Roy White who became postmaster a bit later explaining how rare these were, also a 1939 cover carried on the U.S.S. "North Star" when Admiral Byrd stopped at Pitcairn on his way to Antarctica, with New Zealand Agency c.d.s. and "Ahurei/Ile Rapa/17 12 39" c.d.s., the first port of call after departure, the rest are covers with New Zealand franking tied by the agency c.d.s., three with handstamped or printed cachets, some are identified by the ships that carried them, two are last day of the New Zealand Postal Agency, one posted the next day out of the newly opened Pitcairn post office with Pitcairn franking, condition varies but most are fine-very fine; an interesting collection with supporting collateral.
