1384 ogO Europe remarkably comprehensive and valuable collection offered intact, neatly housed in 63 albums, the vast majority of which are Scott Specialty albums, the others being neat homemade pages in Scott binders, all with slipcases, all continental European countries represented, both East and West Europe, as well as the old Russian and Yugoslav republics, and two volumes of Turkey, many of the countries go into the 1990's, 19th century is mainly used and contains many high cataloging stamps, the early 20th century is a mix of mint and used, with many useful items present, the post-war issues are often mint and with a very high degree of completion, there are also elusive WWI and WWII occupation issues to be found, while there are no major rarities included, the collection is well loaded with medium and higher priced sets and singles of all time periods, condition is mixed, particularly on the earliest issues, with the quality improving on the 20th century, a large portion of which is fine-very fine; the total catalog value will be enormous (probably in the high six figures); original intact collections this voluminous are rarely offered on the auction block anywhere. 1393 c Japan beautiful classic and commemorative post card collection, a vast collection of 170 cards including about 50 that are mounted in two large albums using Japanese painted silk panels as background for the page, many cards are the official commemorative cards that were issued at the time of special events starting about 1905 and going into the 1920's, often they had a special commemorative cancel that went with the event and occasionally commemorative stamps were issued as well, many have military scenes and famous military personnel are depicted as the Russo-Japanese War was in this period and there was considerable military posturing prior to World War I including views of the American Great White Fleet that stopped in Japan on its round-the-world cruise, also includes some stamp post cards of Japanese stamps, plus gorgeous hand painted cards of scenery with some on wood that make the early post cards of Japan so attractive and desirable, all are fine-very fine and a lovely collection of this popular collecting area; ex-Bleuler. LIBERIA COLLECTIONS

1395 c imageLiberia interesting early correspondence of fourteen pre-stamp transatlantic covers of 1840-48 during the Commonwealth of Liberia just prior to becoming a Republic (one 1848 letter from the first year of the Republic) plus a fifteenth very interesting 1845 letter form Reverend H. Teage without cover sheet but letter speaks at length of conditions in the colony, twelve of these letters are to Benjamin Coates, of the Colonization Office in Philadelphia, who was involved in the abolitionist movement and the colonization of Liberia by America slaves, ten of these are from Monrovia including an 1840 letter from Thomas Buchanan, brother of President Buchanan and Governor of Liberia from 1839-1841(he died at Bassa Cove on September 3, 1841 in the care of the Sheridans), the other two covers to Coates are from Louis Sheridan at Bassa Cove, also two missionary letters, one from Monrovia and the other from Settra Kroo, the fourteen covers have various ship markings and rates as they were posted on any ship available coming to the United States, the U.S. connection with the colonization of Liberia makes this early African correspondence a bit more available, but any pre-1850 cover from the west coast of Africa is very scarce; ex-Bleuler. 1398 ogObl Netherlands Colonies mint and used collection consisting of the new world colonies of Surinam and Netherlands Antilles (Curacao) plus a small amount Netherlands New Guinea in a large stock book, Surinam is the most comprehensive with substantial early issues, sometimes collected both mint and used including better high values, includes the postage and semi-postal issues into the 1970's, more modern from the 1960's are often collected in blocks of four, also better air mails as the "Do-X" overprints cplt., Netherlands Antilles is collected for the the same period but not nearly as complete with the early period used and the later mint in singles, o.g. or used except for the in the early period were stamps were often issued without gum, modern period is often n.h., overall clean and fine-very fine; ex-Bleuler.
